Disaster Relief Resources

 

If you have needs due to a recent disaster and are a Center for Independent Living, Statewide Independent Living Council, disability organization or individual with a disability in need of durable medical equipment, medical supplies, please post here. Or, if you're an organization that can make a donation that can meet these needs, please post here.

 

Here are some guidelines to keep in mind to help us maximize the usefulness of this tool:

 

Centers for Independent Living, Statewide Independent Living Councils and Others Needing Durable Medical Equipment or Supplies

1. Please post your request in the table below (click the Edit button at the top of this screen then enter your information in the table below and click Save at the bottom of this screen)

2. Be specific about what you need and how many

3. Indicate when you NEED your equipment or supplies, e.g. ASAP, 7 days, etc.

4. Indicate the destination where they need to be delivered

5. Show the contact with the name of the person who will coordinate receipt of materials with exact delivery information

6. Important to post when that need has been met

 

And, for Organizations who wish to Donate Equipment or Supplies

1. Please post your item(s) in the table below (click the Edit button at the top of this screen then enter your information in the table below and click Save at the bottom of this screen)

2. Specify the item type, quantity and condition of the item(s) you wish to donate

3. Show the contact with the name of the person and contact information of who should be contacted for the donation

4. Indicate how you would ship the donated item(s) and any associated costs to the recipient

5. Important to post when your donated item was shipped

New Horizons in Shreveport, LA has cleared out their equipment loan closet of wheelchairs for those that evacuated Gustav. And, are now  looking for surplus wheelchairs. If you would like to donate, please contact Gale Dean at New Horizons at gdean@nhilc.org or 318.671.8131, as soon as possible.
 9-4-08 / Open SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, Inc. in Cape Girardeau, MO has four youth/child wheelchairs available for donation.  I am not sure how we would ship equipment or if we could cover shipping costs.  Will decide that if equipment is needed.  Contact Kristal Berkbigler-Friese at semotech@sadi.org
   
 9/4/08 / Open Bucks County Center for Independent Living has the following equipment available:  1 folding walker; 1 raised commode  seat with arm supports; 1 manual pedal machine for circulation issues; 1 adjustable aluminum walking cane; 1 wrist blood pressure monitor; 1 tub grab bar; and 1 manual hoyer lift.  For further information, please contact Kimm Guckin at kguckin@cilbc.org.  
 9/5/08/ Open Southwest Louisiana Independence Centers are located in Lake Charles, Lafayette & Leesville.  We currently have a very small supply of equipment.  If possible send bath chairs, manual wheelchairs and walkers, they may be new or used.  Thank you for your support. Contact Gretta Manuel if donations are available.  grettam@slic-la.org or 1-337-477-7194. Donations can be delivered to 1202 kirkman Street , Lake Charles, La 70601. Also, we are need of non-perishable food supplies due to our consumers and the area grocers clearing their shelves before the hurricane. And, personal hygeine items are scarce in our area and donations would be greatly appreciated.

We  have some bathing aides, Mobility Equip. and Incontinence supplies.  1bath seat,  2 wheel chairs, 3-5 standard walkers, various adult briefs & perhaps few other items .
